Golden TWIG 3/8/23: Social Progress!

TWIG wishes an amazing march to all the Women marching for social progress today and the men supporting them. Happy International Women Day!

This week, our Golden TWIG (This Week in Guadalajara) goes to Social Progress

Why? Jalisco is one of the 3 recipients of "Travel & Leisure" 2023 Global Vision Awards, for creating a more progressive atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. Cheers to living in Guadalajara, one of the most progressive cities in Latin America!

Guadalajara Trailblazing Actions:

  • Cohosting the 2023 Gay Games.

  • In the 1980s and 1990s, the city was home to some of the country’s biggest and most important LGBTQ+ nightlife venues.

  • Monica’s, which first opened as a clandestine gay bar in 1980, was the first openly gay club in the city. Its popularity was so immense that, at its peak, it gathered 3,500 people every night.

  • In October 2020, Jalisco signed into law that a trans person of any age can change the gender identity on their legal IDs, including birth certificates. (Jalisco is the only Latin American territory where this is possible.

BONUS: TWIG has launched a LGBTQ+ Section over a month ago so we can all be aware of what is happening in our progressive city!

Emotions you may encounter: Gratitude. Empowerment. Freedom. Giving more.🙂
